Dignity Foundation services, elevate the lifestyle of the elderly

Headquartered at Mumbai, Dignity Foundation is an NGO for the cause and care of the older persons. Dignity Foundation was established in April 1995, to cater to the needs of the elderly. It is a charitable organization under Societies Reg. Act 1860 GBBSD/97C. The foundation is premised upon scientific developments in the fields of Geriatrics and Gerontology. It offers structural opportunities to exercise the choice of how to live young in chronologically advancing years.

The goals of the Foundation are twofold. One is to rid the minds of the senior citizens in the age group of 50 to 85 years of the fear that age means decline and retirement means loneliness, isolation, and loss of prestige and so on. The Foundation works diligently to re-instill in the elderly minds the confidence that age and productivity are not mutually exclusive. It does this by utilizing their experience and maturity in activities that serve the needs of the community. The other goal is achieved by attending to the needs of the elderly whose social support systems have weakened or are non-existent.

The Foundation is managed by professionals in the field of Management, HRD, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Marketing, Editing, Printing and Finance. The Founder President, Dignity Foundation and Dignity Lifestyle Retirement Township, Dr. Sheilu Sreenivasan, started out by initiating the Dignity Foundation services with the publication of Dignity Dialogue, the magazine focusing on issues related to senior citizens. Gradually the foundation expanded its gamut of services to ensure dignified living to the elderly.

Dignity is funded by subscriptions to the Dignity Dialogue magazine, fees for membership of the Foundation, donations from philanthropic organisations and individuals and sponsorship from banks and companies for specific projects. Also, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company has been associated with Dignity Foundation for three years now. While the ICICI’s strength lies in providing financial solutions in the retirement space, Dignity Foundation provides a platform for senior citizens to explore exciting opportunities to keep them engaged and further add value to their lives.

Dignity promotes productive ageing by offering varied services like the magazine Dignity Dialogue, Second career job opportunities, Counseling Centres, Enrichment Centres, , Elder Care facilities and Homes for the Old , Companionship services to the lonely, Computer Skills, Helpline for crisis counseling and rescue from abuse, Police protection for endangered lives among the elderly, Senior Citizens ID Card in Maharashtra, Dementia Care, Dignity on Wheels that takes all the services of the Foundation to poorer localities in Mumbai, Ration Supplies to the poor old, Civic services in Mumbai, and Cultural enrichment activities and opportunities for senior citizens. All services facilitated by Dignity Foundation, elevate the lifestyle of the elderly in our country.
